The Central Bank (CB) in the first quarter of 2023 revealed 3018 counterfeit banknotes in the national currency. This is 62.88% less than in the same period last year (8131). The number of counterfeit banknotes of foreign countries fell by almost 46%, to 360 pieces, follows from Central Bank press release.
During the reporting period, the following were identified: counterfeit five-thousandth banknotes – 2082, two-thousandths – 224, banknotes with a face value of 1000 – 601. The least counterfeited were banknotes of 50 rubles. (seven). They also found 35 fake coins with a face value of 10 rubles, 13 fake coins with a face value of 5 rubles. Most counterfeit banknotes were found in the Central Federal District (1542).
Among the counterfeits of foreign banknotes, the euro was the most (187). They also found 170 counterfeit dollars and one bill each – yuan, hryvnia and Swedish krona.
In March, as it became known to Kommersant, law enforcement officers detained a group of people in Ingushetia, Dagestan and the Rostov region suspected of manufacturing and selling high-quality counterfeit banknotes with a face value of 5 thousand rubles. During the search, machine tools, stencils, a home-made drying cabinet and other items for the production of banknotes were seized from the production workshop.
