The car market of the Russian Federation in September and following the results of three quarters falls by almost 60%. Most brands do not replenish stocks, so their sales do not reflect the real level of demand in the market. As a result, Lada remains among the leaders, as the only budget offer, domestic GAZ and UAZ, as well as Chinese brands with their crossovers. Suspended Korean brands can no longer offer a significant amount of their best-selling Kia Rio/Hyundai Solaris sedans – the latter did not enter the top 25 models at all in September.

In September, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in Russia fell by 59.6% to 46.7 thousand units, according to the Association of European Businesses (.pdf). The data does not include reports from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Chery and its brand Exeed – they only report quarterly. For nine months, sales decreased by 59.8% to 506.7 thousand units.

AvtoVAZ remains the market leader: sales of cars under the Lada brand in September even showed an increase of 20%, to 20.6 thousand units.

As “b” wrote, Lada Granta is actually the only offer in the segment of budget mass-produced cars in the Russian Federation. Only this model accounted for 13.4 thousand cars over the past month. In addition to the domestic brand, the sales of the Chinese Changan were in the black – an increase of 74%, to 789 units. The Chinese Haval showed a slight drop in sales – by 2%, to 3.4 thousand cars. Geely’s dynamics is slightly worse – a decrease of 4% (2.5 thousand units).

Sales of other top 10 brands in the market were declining in September. Moreover, the sales of GAZ (by 27%, to 3.8 thousand) and UAZ (by 25%, to 2.5 thousand) are lower than last year. However, this did not prevent the GAZ group, which sells only LCVs, from taking the third place in the brand rating.

Hyundai became the leader among foreign cars (down by 71%, to 3.9 thousand), and the Solaris model was not even included in the list of the 25 most popular in September. Hyundai actively sold crossovers: Tucson (1.6 thousand), Santa Fe and Creta (0.6 thousand each). At the same time, Korean Kia reduced sales by 81% to 3.3 thousand cars. Rio remains the most popular model of this brand, but its sales are more than ten times lower than a year ago (0.6 thousand). Realization of Renault, which left the Russian market and sells warehouses, again turned out to be higher than that of other European brands (drop by 82%, to 1.3 thousand). In practice, the warehouses of all brands, with the exception of domestic, Chinese and partially Korean, have not been replenished in recent months – after the outbreak of hostilities, sanctions and subsequent difficulties in logistics. Volkswagen, whose production is suspended, reduced sales by 90%, to 758 cars. Not a single Japanese brand entered the top 10 of the market.
