The Bulgarian Parliament will consider a ban on the supply of Russian oil to the LUKOIL plant

The Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party proposed to cancel the exception for the use of Russian oil by the LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas refinery. The idea was supported by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms. Both parties are part of the government coalition.
How it conveys BTV, Parliament may consider the issue in November. If the deputies support the proposal, LUKOIL will be forced to refuse to process Russian oil at its plant.
The parliamentary majority previously planned to introduce a ban on Russian oil by November 2023. The Russian company indicated that implementing the solution in such a short time would lead to a sharp increase in the cost of fuel on the domestic market. In September, the majority of Bulgarian deputies voted for reducing the use of Russian oil at the LUKOIL plant to 80% by the end of 2023. The refinery must completely abandon Russian oil by October 2024. As BTV notes, the decision to postpone the abandonment of Russian energy resources was made in connection with the threat of Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov and his government to resign. According to GERB, only LUKOIL benefits from the deferment, and not the Bulgarian consumer.
