The Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, damaged as a result of sabotage, are subject to repair, stated former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung.
He will also advocate starting gas supplies through them after repairs, as this “would be reasonable from a price point of view.”
Answering a journalist’s question about whether the United States was behind the bombing of gas pipelines, Schroeder said that he did not have an answer to this question. At the same time, he recalled US President Joe Biden’s threats to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to stop the operation of the pipelines.
“There is one clue: in early 2022, Biden told Scholz that Nord Stream would not be able to work if Russia attacked Ukraine. Everyone can draw their own conclusions from this,” Schroeder recalled.
On September 26, 2022, the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which pass through the Baltic Sea, were damaged as a result of sabotage. Only one of the Nord Stream 2 lines has survived, but it is not used for gas supplies, since Germany did not allow the pipeline to be put into operation after its completion. Russia announced its involvement in sabotage by Western countries led by the United States, while the Western press wrote that Ukraine could be involved in blowing up pipelines.
