A complaint was filed against the Bolshoi Theater due to queues. The victims filed appeals to the Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor’s Office, Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Culture and the Presidential Administration due to the crush at the box office for tickets to The Nutcracker. On November 10, the theater handed out bracelets that allowed people to get in line for the most popular pre-New Year shows of the legendary ballet. Several hundred people gathered at the Bolshoi ticket office. They reported that due to poor organization there was a stampede and two girls needed medical attention. No one was seriously injured, but potential spectators filed a collective complaint due to “improper organization of ticket sales.”

The authors of the appeal expect that they will be paid compensation for moral damage, and the management of the theater will be fired, one of the applicants, Kira, told Kommersant FM:

“I expect that after the complaint, at least something will change in the organization of ticket sales. Live queue is evil. I hope that in this situation they will sort out the artificially created deficit. 50-70% of tickets are hidden from free sale.

Information should be open: how many tickets were actually sold and where. At a minimum, the theater needs to apologize to its viewers, and at maximum, the management should be fired. It would be a good idea to file a class action lawsuit against the Bolshoi Theater now, demanding compensation for moral damages.

If everyone’s demand is 15-20 thousand rubles, then from those thousands of people who stood in line, an impressive amount will add up. If the theater responds with money, then perhaps next time it will organize more secure ticket sales.”

The authors of the complaint also ask that the management of the Bolshoi Theater be held accountable for “organizing mass riots.” The response to such a collective appeal will most likely be a pre-investigation investigation, which could result not only in civil, but also criminal proceedings, says Alisher Zahidov, a member of the People of Dela Bar Association:

“From a civil legal point of view, this is, of course, a violation of Article 7 of the Law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights” – the rules for a safe service by creating an artificial hype. From a criminal legal point of view, it is first necessary to determine the degree of harm and involve the organizers of ticket sales as employees of the state theater. Thus, we can talk about conducting a pre-investigation check and bringing those responsible for the implementation of the theater to criminal liability.

Victims can file claims for compensation for moral damages against the theater itself for these crazy wild queues, which should not exist at all. The result of this complaint will be the initiation of a pre-investigation investigation. This is a collective complaint, a resonant statement, affected people. This is from the Investigative Committee. From the side of civil law relations – compensation for moral damage, that is, physical and moral suffering. There may also be an administrative staff under Chapter 12 of the Law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights”. We need to check on all counts and not hush it up.”

On the evening of November 12, some tickets for pre-New Year dates also appeared on the Bolshoi website. Judging by complaints on social networks, technical difficulties on the portal arose even before the start of sales. And on November 3, a line also formed at the theater box office for four hundred bracelets, which gave the opportunity to buy a ticket to the screenings of “The Nutcracker” from December 23 to 28. Then, according to some estimates, up to 2 thousand people gathered on Theater Square.

After this, the State Duma Committee on Culture sent a deputy request to the leadership of the Bolshoi. The theater eventually responded that it was not going to change the rules for selling tickets to the ballet.
