The authorities of Yakutia will stop receiving messages via Gmail and Proton from December 6

In Yakutia, from December 6, the receipt of messages sent through the mail domains Gmail, Proton, Onionmail, Megamail, Hotmail to the mailing addresses of local authorities will be limited. The regional government’s civil registry office explained the ban by an increase in the number of false reports of terrorist attacks.
“In connection with the increasing cases of sending deliberately false messages with extremist content and in order to prevent circumstances that contributed to the commission of crimes against public authorities, we inform you that from December 6, 2023, the receipt of messages sent through the domains Gmail, Proton, Onionmail, Megamail, Hotmail to the mailing addresses of the domains of state authorities of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) sakha.gov.ru, adm.sakha.gov.ru and gov14.ru,” says the message of the Civil Registry Office on VKontakte.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the number of registered crimes under the article “Knowingly false report of an act of terrorism” (Article 207 of the Criminal Code) in 2022 exceeded the average for 2016–2021 by almost ten times. If in 2020 2,404 crimes were registered under this article, in 2021 – 3,018, then in 2022 their number increased to 23,247. The maximum punishment under Art. 207 of the Criminal Code is up to ten years in prison.
