Thailand has become the most popular New Year’s destination among Russians – Kommersant

The majority of Russians planning to travel for the New Year holidays intend to vacation in Thailand, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, a Tinkoff Travel study showed. Thailand became the most popular destination – it was chosen by 32% of Russians. Turkey ranks second (13%), followed by the UAE (9%), India and China (7% each).
The study was conducted on the basis of data on transactions of Tinkoff clients who purchased tickets abroad (excluding CIS countries). Trips were taken into account from January 1 to January 8. The results of the study are RBC.
Among neighboring countries, Uzbekistan is the most popular among Russians, accounting for 25% of tickets. Another 22% of those wishing to travel to the CIS countries bought tickets to Armenia, 13% – to Azerbaijan. Russians who decided to stay in the country for the holidays mainly bought tickets to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi and Kaliningrad – these destinations account for more than 50% of tickets from all domestic flights.
According to Kommersant, market participants predict that this year operators will be able to sell New Year’s tours within the country by 50% more than a year earlier, and the cost of vacation will increase by at least 18%. At some ski resorts in the country, including Dombay and the Elbrus region, there are practically no available hotel rooms left.
