Starting from November, the TON (Telegram Open Network) wallet function will appear in Telegram settings. He reported this in his Telegram channel creator of the messenger Pavel Durov.
In his announcement, Pavel Durov spoke about last year’s success of the Fragment auction platform, created on the basis of TON.
“It was a phenomenal success. Telegram auctioned off $120 million worth of digital assets, and early buyers of some Telegram-related digital assets, such as anonymous Telegram numbers, saw their value increase 27-fold (!) in just 9 months,” wrote the creator of the messenger.
According to Mr. Durov, the success of Fragment demonstrated the potential for the development of the Web 3.0 concept in Telegram. Integrating a crypto wallet into the application will allow developers to introduce hundreds of new useful functions into the messenger, says the founder of Telegram.
The Wallet crypto wallet function became available to Telegram users in January 2022. Transactions with the purchase and sale of cryptocurrency took place through the Telegram bot @wallet, with the help of which you can already see in a test format how the wallet will be integrated into the application. After the November update of the messenger, the crypto wallet function will appear in the settings of every user outside the United States and some other countries.
TON is a decentralized blockchain created by the Durov brothers in 2018. The Telegram team planned to create a platform for applications, like Google Play or the App Store, thanks to which users could use the Gram cryptocurrency (later TonCoin) to pay for content and subscriptions to services, support the authors of Telegram channels and buy real goods and services through bots. In 2020, the US Securities and Exchange Commission recognized Gram tokens as securities and banned their release, which is why the project continued to exist as an association of independent developers outside the United States.
