Tele2 denies information about the expiration of the brand lease agreement

The opportunity to use the Tele2 brand does not expire in September 2023 as part of the agreement. The mobile operator announced this “RIA News”. The operator said that the use of the brand is really limited by the terms specified in the contract with the Swedish telecommunications group Tele2 AB, but did not name these terms.
“The Russian mobile operator refutes the information published in the Vedomosti newspaper on March 9. The company continues to use the brand under the current contract, which does not expire in September 2023. The use of the Tele2 trademark outside the terms specified in the agreement with the Swedish side is excluded.
On March 9, the executive vice president of the Swedish company, Viktor Wahlström, told the publication ComNews, that they will not renew the contract for the use of the brand by the Russian operator Tele2. The contract expires in 2023. The interview of the vice-president of the company was also published by the Vedomosti newspaper.
Tele2 was owned by the Swedish company until April 2013. Then it was bought by VTB Bank for $2.4 billion. At the same time, VTB agreed on the right to use the Tele2 brand in Russia for ten years. In February 2020, Rostelecom bought VTB’s stake in Tele2.
