Taxi fares hit 10-year highs

The cost of taxi rides in Russia has reached its highest over the past ten years (2014-2023) indicators, writes RBC with reference to Rosstat data. In June, the price of a trip reached 32.53 rubles. per 1 km of travel.
According to the schedule published by the publication, the average consumer price per 1 km of track in 2014 was 22.98 rubles, in 2015 – 22.49 rubles, in 2021 – 25.69, and in 2023 – already 32.53 rubles. RBC writes that taxi services have been continuously rising in price since April 2021. At the same time, over the past ten years, the largest price increase – 4.03% – occurred in the first half of this year (June to January). The previous record was in January-June 2022: 2.7%.
According to Pavel Stennikov, spokesman for the Maxim taxi ordering service, since the beginning of 2023, the cost of a taxi ride has increased even more than Rosstat indicates: by about 25% in the regions of Russia, by 40% in Moscow.
According to the Check Index service, the average ticket for a taxi in Russia for the first six months of 2023 amounted to 435 rubles, which is 4% more than the same period in 2022, in Moscow – 771 rubles. (+12%). Only in the Moscow taxi in January-June, 189 million trips were made (an increase of 7% compared to January-June last year), the press service of the capital Deptrans reported.

Due to international sanctions imposed after the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, Western, Japanese and Korean automakers refused to cooperate with Russia. However, the National Taxi Council opposed the mass purchase of Russian cars. In a letter to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, market participants asked not to force taxi companies to switch to using exclusively Russian-made cars. Such a measure against the backdrop of rising prices for Russian cars, according to experts, may also lead to an increase in taxi fares.
