The American taxi aggregator Lyft will cut more than 1 thousand employees, which is about a quarter of the company’s entire staff. In addition, the service intends to reduce the rate of hiring new employees and eliminate more than 250 jobs, follows from statements Lyft to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
This is Lyft’s second round of layoffs. Last November, the company announced that it intended to lay off 683 employees, or 13% of the company’s then staff. The company’s new CEO, David Risher, who took office on April 1, had previously warned that the service would have to make further staff cuts to cut costs in the tough economic conditions.
Earlier today, the second wave of staff cuts was announced by dropbox, laying off 500 of its employees, which is 16% of the company’s staff. Dropbox CEO Drew Houston attributed the move to difficult macroeconomic conditions and the advent of the age of chatbots.
