He himself is from Kazan, studied at the Moscow Film School with Alexei Popogrebsky, participated with short films in the Kinotavr and Koroche competitions, and filmed series. And now he made a tragicomedy in the Tatar language, inviting Rosa Khairullina and his father, a Tatar writer, playwright, prominent public figure, director and once an actor of the Tatar Theater named after M.V. Kamala Rabita Batullu. The father’s invitation was therapeutic in nature, as he admitted that after 30 years of family life, a crisis had come. Hearing this from an 83-year-old father at that time is a shock. And since Baibula’s parents would never go to a psychologist for advice, and they would probably watch the film, the son decided that film therapy would be enough.
President of the Jury and film director Boris Khlebnikov, presenting the prize, explained his choice by the fact that the main thing he believes in is a sense of humor, and there is plenty of it in Baibulla’s film. Actress Irina Rozanova, as a member of the jury, presented the winner with a plaid shirt intended for his father. This is already an addition to the official award.
The special prize was awarded to “Aquarium” by Ilya Shagalov “For Reality”, although he filmed a dystopia about what happens to a person in a state of captivity. Ilya filmed the near future in a park of a new formation in the city of his childhood, Krasnodar, providing the heroes with a suffocating, sterile space unsuitable for life. Stas, played by Alexei Filimonov, hit the guy who brazenly pestered everyone in the cafe and is now punished. He was issued the first remark, classes with a psychologist on anger management were prescribed, and a personal inspector Max settled in his house, designed to control every step. The main thing for Stas in the current circumstances is not to get into the enclave. And the salvation is that Max turned out to be a man in the wrong place, he did not lose the ability to empathize, although in such work one cannot emotionally connect to the ward. Wives in this stuffy world slander their husbands, reassuring themselves that they are doing it for the sake of their children. The heroes talk about the impossibility of happiness in the face of constant fear of falling into the enclave. What kind of love can we talk about if a person is afraid to breathe. But the powerful of this world proceed from the fact that people should always be afraid of something – the effectiveness of the measure has been tested. But young people do not want to live like that. Many films are about this.
Polina Lazareva was the only known debutante. She had a strong support group at the festival – her parents and their friends. Her “Seagull” was awarded a special prize with a playful wording “We agree. This is a comedy”. Polina spoke about the filming of a comedy before the premiere, although the catalog indicated that this was a detective thriller, a drama. In fact, she filmed something like semantic hallucinations, into which the heroine, thirsting for true love, plunges from time to time. In fabulous visions, one can even afford revenge against an unfaithful lover and fashionable writer named Chaika.
The most attractive special prize with the possibility of airing on a federal channel went to Tina Barclay’s Tales of Hoffmann. In the former Koenigsberg, the street where the German writer Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann was born has been preserved, but the movie fairy tales of our days are of a completely different kind.
The jury of the short film, headed by Alexei German Jr., awarded the main prize to Evgeny Maryan’s film “I need to tell you something”, which is bold today, and touches on a now taboo topic. It’s about people, a particular girl, like we have two million and whom they are trying to erase from life by an effort of will.
Pavel Korolko, who directed Here and Now, from the last course of Sergei Solovyov, who has now moved to Nikolai Lebedev, was awarded for directing. In this modest work, one can understand a lot about how young guys feel today, their anxiety and confusion. Friends are driving in an old car, talking about something, quarreling, meeting a girl on a bicycle along the way who will help them fix the car. The best animated film was Alexander Brunkovskiy’s Blooming Winter, filmed in Italian based on the works of the Italian writer and screenwriter Tonino Guerra.
