Taliban Afghanistan wants to conclude an agreement with Tatneft on the purchase of petroleum products

The Taliban ruling Afghanistan (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) is discussing the possibility of purchasing oil products from Russian companies, the country’s Minister of Industry and Trade Nuriddin Azizi said. Among the priority companies with which Kabul would like to conclude a contract, the minister indicated Tatneft.

“Last year we had meetings with Russian oil companies, including from Tatarstan. We need 4 million tons of oil products. We provide some of them through Turkmenistan and Iran. However, we want to conclude good agreements with Russian companies, especially with Tatneft. I hope we will keep in touch,” Nuriddin Azizi said on the sidelines of the Russia-Islamic World summit (quoted by RIA Novosti).

At the end of September 2022, Reuters, citing Nuruddin Azizi reportedthat the Taliban movement, which controls the territory of Afghanistan, has concluded an economic deal with Russia. According to the minister, Russia will annually supply approximately 1 million tons of gasoline, 1 million tons of diesel fuel, 500,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas and 2 million tons of wheat.

Later, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov confirmedthat the deal on the supply of fuel and grain between the countries has been tentatively approved. Mr. Kabulov did not specify prices and methods of payment. Taliban for Russian oil were ready supply raisins, medicinal herbs and minerals.
