The legend of Euphrosyne of Suzdal, who defended the city from Batu’s troops by covering it with clouds, was visualized on the walls of the Suzdal Kremlin. Until January 7, every 15 minutes the ancient walls will come to life, telling the legend of a local saint.
Illustrations for the 15-minute music and light performance were written by Mstera artists Denis, Daniil and Nikolai Molodkin. And the show itself was created under the direction of Anton Chukaev, winner of the Showtex Awards for his work on the light-dynamic show “Tale of Tales” (France, Lyon, International Festival of Light in 2005) and the author of the Closing Ceremony of the fountains in Peterhof.
It’s amazing how easily multimedia lay on the centuries-old walls of the Suzdal Kremlin, where reconstruction had just been completed. The performance begins with white and blue snowflakes, which fall on the three main buildings of the architectural ensemble – the Nativity Cathedral (1222-1225), the Bishops’ Chambers (XV-XVIII centuries) and St. Nicholas Church (1766). Soon the monochrome light picture is replaced by colorful drawings telling an ancient legend about a local saint. Despite the frost, it looks in one breath – mesmerizing.
“The city has been transformed for its 1000th anniversary,” says the new mayor of Suzdal Alina Biryukova. – a lot of investments have been made, especially in infrastructure, comfortable housing, and cultural events that will create a special festive atmosphere in the city. Every month throughout the year there will be exciting events and this light show is the first of them.
Suzdal is the New Year’s capital this year, it is supposed to surprise with winter fairy tales.
