The buyer, whose name was not disclosed, paid for auction nearly $219,000 for a pair of well-worn Birkenstock sandals owned by Apple founder Steve Jobs. Sandals come with NFT. The sandals were one of the lots in the Legends & Idols: Rock ‘n’ Roll auction, which also included musical instruments, clothing items, and more from famous artists including Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain, and John Lennon.
According to Julien’s Auctions, which held the auction, Steve Jobs wore this pair of sandals in the 70s and 80s of the last century. That is, it was precisely in those years when Apple was born and its first computer was created in a garage in Los Altos. It is known that Mr. Jobs liked Birkenstock sandals so much that, according to the memoirs of designer Margot Fraser, who first brought these shoes from Germany to the USA, he wanted to find out everything about these shoes. Mr. Jobs was interested in who came up with such an unusual shape, what they are made of, the technical issues of their production.
After the death of Steven Jobs in 2011, this pair of sandals belonged to manager Mark Sheff. According to him, the few personal items that Jobs had at the time of his death, and he was a supporter of minimalism, were collected and distributed to friends or taken to thrift stores. And the staff who served his house took something as a souvenir.
The Birkenstock sandals were valued at $60,000-80,000. There were 19 bids for them, and the winning bidder paid almost four times the starting price. Thus, Steve Jobs sandals became the most expensive pair of sandals ever sold at auction.
