The French and Tunisian interior ministers announced, on Wednesday August 31, in a joint press release the normalization by France of the issuance of visas in Tunisia.

In the fall of 2021, France decided to restrict the issuance of visas in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, in order to encourage these countries to make efforts in terms of cooperation and the fight against illegal immigration. This was to encourage them to improve the reception of their nationals under the influence of an expulsion from France.
The refusal rate had reached 30% in Tunisia and 50% for Morocco and Algeria.
“Great progress”
At the French interior ministry, it was explained that Tunisia was the first of the three countries to have lifted the health tests required to be able to enter the territory. In addition, it has been pointed out “great progress made” by Tunisia in terms of cooperation.
It was planned that the mechanism for reducing the number of visas issued by France to nationals of these countries could be reviewed according to the ” efforts “ accomplished.
The two ministers agreed to redo a joint assessment of cooperation on “all questions of common interest by the end of the year”.
