Since the beginning of the year, the German railway operator Deutsche Bahn has stopped delivering humanitarian cargo to Ukraine free of charge, Der Spiegel reports, citing sources.

According to the publication, since February 2022, a division of the company – DB Cargo – has transported 1,300 containers of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including food, water purification systems, generators, wheelchairs, hygiene products and other things, writes with link to article RBC. Transport costs amounted to about 5 million euros.

About the imminent suspension of free transportation of goods DB Cargo, as the newspaper notes, reported to the German authorities in December. They explained that the stock of funds for these purposes was already running out. According to sources, the company asked the German Ministry of Transport to pay for transportation, but was refused. At the same time, the Spiegel department reported that the government is discussing the form and amount of support for the company in order to resume the transportation of humanitarian cargo to Ukraine free of charge.
