The third and final day of the Cultural Forum in St. Petersburg began with the firing of a cannon from the Peter and Paul Fortress. They shot in honor of the new award established at the forum. Tatyana Golikova named the names of the first laureates: these are the artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev and the artistic director of the ballet troupe of the Mikhailovsky Theater Nacho Duato.
The first prize is a small copy of the Kolyvan vase made of jasper, which decorates the Hermitage hall. This is the largest vase of its kind in the world, it is a symbol of the Hermitage and the wealth of Russia.
Accepting the award, Valery Gergiev, who has a huge number of various awards and prizes, admitted that this was his first ceremony in his life that began with a shot.
– I want culture to play a decisive role in difficult times. Dostoevsky once said that beauty will save the world. The time has come.
Nacho Juan Ignacio Duato Barcia spoke in English: “I accept this award with mixed feelings – with humility and gratitude. The famous Spanish dancer and choreographer dedicated his award to all the artists and employees of the Mikhailovsky and his audience. And he unexpectedly ended his short speech with these words:
– I will never leave this city, I am its kind of adopted son.
