Soyuzmultfilm appealed to the Ozon and Wildberries marketplaces with a demand to remove products with the image of Cheburashka from the catalogs, which do not correspond to the classic image of the character. This was reported TASS at the press office of the studio.
“The status of our classic characters, which are part of the cultural heritage, must remain at a high level, any use of images must take place within the framework of the current legislation,” the press service said. Thus, Soyuzmultfilm intends to avoid arbitrary visual interpretations and integrations of animated film characters, the rights to which belong to the film studio.
The press service of the studio also notes that when working with partners, Soyuzmultfilm “attentively treats the context of cooperation, avoiding possible semantic and visual distortions.” Representatives of the studio specified that during the year of monitoring over 6,000 cases of illegal use of popular animation images by companies throughout Russia were revealed. Claims for at least 5,000 of the established facts have been drawn up and sent to the courts.
Earlier today, on January 20, Telegram channels reported that after the release of the film “Cheburashka”, Russian marketplaces received poor quality children’s toys in the form of the main character of the tape, which were sold at an inflated price. The press service of Soyuzmultfilm called the products counterfeit and said that they had nothing to do with the film studio.
As of January 20, box office receipts for the film Cheburashka, directed by Dmitry Dyachenko, amounted to 4,659,328,118 rubles. Thus the film became the highest-grossing film in the Russian box office.
