Sokurov denies plans to post the film “Fairy Tale” on the Internet – Kommersant

The film “Fairy Tale,” for which the Ministry of Culture did not issue a distribution certificate, will not be posted on the Internet, its director Alexander Sokurov said. Director Arseny Gonchukov today, October 18, wrote on Facebook (the social network belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned) that “The Fairy Tale” “literally in a week” will appear on the network with the voice acting of Mr. Sokurov himself. The author of the post allegedly learned about this from the producer of the film.

“I did not make any decision about any placement of the film after its screening was banned. Therefore, I don’t know where these rumors come from. There is no such solution,” Alexander Sokurov told RIA Novosti.

He recalled that the film exists in several versions – with different subtitles and with voiceover by the author. “On what basis does this person, whom I don’t know, make such statements?” – added the director.

October 14 became known, that the Ministry of Culture refused to issue a distribution certificate for the film “Fairy Tale”. As justification, the department referred to subparagraph “g” of paragraph 18 of the extradition rules approved by the government in 2016, but its wording is very vague: “in other cases determined by federal laws.” The director called it “another stage of censorship.” Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg from the Yabloko faction Alexander Shishlov asked The Ministry of Culture allows the screening of “Fairy Tales”.
