Social networks may fall under the new antitrust package along with marketplaces

The FAS proposed to include the regulation of social networks and search engines in the so-called fifth antimonopoly package, which should prevent the monopolization of the online platform market. This follows from a letter from the deputy head of the service, Sergei Puzyrevsky, sent to interested departments, including the Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Economic Development. The receipt of the document was confirmed by First Deputy Minister of Economic Development Ilya Torosov.
The government submitted the initial version of the draft amendments to the law “On Protection of Competition”, which regulates the work of marketplaces and aggregators, to the State Duma in the summer, and in November it passed the first reading of the lower house of parliament.
