Smartphone sales to fall to ten-year low in 2023 – Kommersant

2023 could be the worst smartphone sales in a decade. Such a forecast introduced today, August 17, research company Counterpoint Research. She expects smartphone sales for the year to fall 6% to 1.15 billion. Last year, smartphone sales fell 12%.
The decline is due to poor performance in North America, China, and much of the rest of Asia. According to Counterpoint analysts, “North America is the main drag on the global recovery, with a disappointing first half of the year pointing to double-digit percentage declines for the year as a whole.” “Asia is one of the main bottlenecks for growth, as growth constraints hamper the economic upturn that was expected at the beginning of the year for China, and the region as a whole is experiencing a deepening decline in emerging markets,” Counterpoint also notes.
At the same time, the company’s analysts note that the market for expensive smartphones shows better performance than other segments. Counterpoint expects Apple to likely retain its top spot in the smartphone market in 2023, especially as its new iPhone 15 is due out in the second half of the year.
