Gazprom-Media considers it expedient to liquidate Ekho Moskvy CJSC, since the radio station that was previously part of the holding ceased operations more than a year ago and is making losses, reported TASS in the press office.
At the last board of directors of Ekho Moskvy, representatives of the holding voted against the extension of the radio station’s rights to the trademarks Radio Ekho Moskvy and Ekho Moskvy, said today, August 17, the former editor-in-chief of the radio station Alexei Venediktov (recognized as a foreign agent).
In this decision, Mr. Venediktov saw collusion and wrote that the shareholders were thus “voluntarily relinquishing a millionth (in dollars of property)”. “According to the majority shareholder, the value of the trademark of CJSC Ekho Moskvy in its current state by Alexei Venediktov is greatly exaggerated,” they said. RBC the press service of the holding.
On August 8, it became known that the media group MIA “Russia Today” filed applications for registration of the Echo of Moscow brand: the first application is for the registration of the name, the second is for the registration of the logo. Mr. Venediktov then said that, according to the law, registration was impossible, since the Ekho Moskvy brand belongs to ZAO Ekho Moskvy, where minority shareholders control a third of the stake.
The radio station “Echo of Moscow” has been operating for more than 20 years. On March 1, 2022, a few days after the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the radio station was taken off the air and the website was blocked. The team challenged the actions of supervisory authorities in court, but did not achieve success. At the time of closing, Gazprom-Media owned 66% of the shares in ZAO Ekho Moskvy, 34% belonged to private individuals, including 14% to Mr. Venediktov.
