Singapore intensifies training and attraction of AI specialists - Kommersant

Yesterday, December 4, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong statedthat the country’s authorities intend to intensify efforts to attract specialists in the field of AI and machine learning to Singapore. The government of this small Asian country with a population of 5.5 million people intends to triple the number of highly qualified engineers and AI developers currently working in Singapore – from the current 5 thousand to 15 thousand. Singapore is already hub for many high-tech global companies – Microsoft, Google, IBM, Apple, Razer, Amazon, ByteDance.

As part of a program to train its own and attract foreign specialists in the field of AI, the Singapore government intends to support startups and projects of large companies to create research centers in the field of AI. The country’s authorities are also intensifying the launch of local educational projects for training in the field of AI.

The Deputy Prime Minister made it clear that the development of AI is one of the priorities for the Singapore government. “The backbone for the development of AI is machine learning scientists and engineers who are able to process huge amounts of data,” noted Mr. Wong: Singapore believes in the long-term potential of AI. Our goal is to fully harness the power of AI to improve lives.”
