Retail sales of antidepressants in the first five months of 2023 in monetary terms increased by 2% year-on-year to RUB 4.32 billion. Such data was provided to Vedomosti by the marketing agency DSM Group. The group of these drugs managed to maintain positive dynamics this year, despite the high base in 2022.
This is partly due to the arrival of foreign practices for the treatment of depression in the country, explained Sergey Shulyak, CEO of DSM Group. According to him, such therapy involves the appointment of a drug, regardless of the severity of the disease, while psychotherapy fades into the background.
The growth trend in sales of antidepressants is confirmed by market participants selling such drugs. According to Eapteka, the demand for this category of medicines increased by 30% from January to May 2023 compared to the same period a year earlier, the company’s press service told Vedomosti. According to Kirill Yakobenko, General Director of Yuteka, the sales of such products “increased both in units and in turnover.” He associated this dynamics with an increase in the number of users of pharmacy marketplaces.
