Shooting of the serial film “GDR” started in Moscow

In Moscow, with the participation of the NTV television company, the shooting of the serial feature film “GDR” began.

“We are delighted to embark on the production of such a large and important project. The action of the serial spy drama will unfold in a period that has become a new starting point for today’s reality for our country. High-quality historical detective stories are content that we pay special attention to, since working with historical material requires precision and accuracy, especially when, as in the case of the GDR, the plot is based on real events. Such projects receive a huge response from the widest audience. GDR is an image project, which, we hope, will become another NTV hit,” said Timur Weinstein, general producer of the NTV television company.

The events unfold in 1989-1990, the General Secretary of the CPSU Mikhail Gorbachev begins global transformations in the USSR. He passionately desires to become a star of world politics and for this he is ready to go towards the West as far as he likes.

But the perestroika conceived by Gorbachev led to fatal, irreversible consequences. First, the bloc of socialist countries, the Warsaw Pact Organization, collapsed, followed by the collapse of the Soviet Union.

“He who does not remember his past has no future. The fall of the Berlin Wall provoked the destruction of the entire bloc of Eastern European countries, including the collapse of the USSR. The conflicts taking place in Europe now are a direct consequence of the events of the late twentieth century. To understand why the current redistribution of the world order is taking place, it is necessary to look at the very beginning of the European crisis – 1989, Berlin, the wall,” said Yury Sapronov, General Producer of Russian World Studios JSC.

In the center of the plot is the image of an officer, a man who does not give up under the onslaught of circumstances. The main character, intelligence officer Alexander Nechaev, finds himself at the center of an operation organized by the special services of several countries. During the months spent in Berlin at the time of the collapse of the entire post-war system of the world order, Nechaev has changed a lot. He no longer knows who is a friend and who is a traitor, but continues to defend the honor and interests of his homeland.

“We want this film to give the modern audience a new look at the events that changed the fate of not only the GDR, but the whole of Europe. And, of course, the destruction of the wall and the disappearance of the GDR directly influenced the history of our country in the future. Even now, many years later, it affects each of us in the most serious way. Therefore, for me, this is not just a detective story, it is a look into the future through our past,” says Sergey Popov, director of the project.

The film is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2023 on the Wink online platform, and in the spring of 2024 on the air of the NTV channel.
