Honored Art Worker, head of the sector of ancient Russian art of the State Institute of Art History Lev Lifshits commented to MK on the decree of the head of state on the transfer of the Trinity icon painted by Andrei Rublev in the 15th century to the Russian Orthodox Church:
– The restoration council at the Tretyakov Gallery has just ended, where it was categorically stated, conclusively, with a demonstration of everything in the world, that this monument of ancient Russian art cannot be moved from its place.
– What consequences can be expected as a result of a sharp change in the storage conditions of the Trinity?
– As a result of these ill-conceived actions, the icon will die. This is the only result. Just die. And you will be shown a dummy.
“The icon requires careful conservation and compliance with the conditions of museum storage,” the expert reminded once again.
Recall that the legendary “Trinity” recently left the permanent exhibition of the Tretyakov Gallery and went for another examination. Since the icon has been in the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, it has been under the close supervision of specialists. Travel exacerbated a number of chronic “illnesses” of the relics.
