Senator Sheikin proposed to create an analogue of OSAGO for IT – Kommersant

In Russia, it is necessary to create insurance for companies in case of cyber attacks and data leaks – an analogue of OSAGO for IT, said Senator Artem Sheikin, Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy under the Federation Council. According to him, such recommendations were sent to the Ministry of Digital Development and the Central Bank.
“Creating a cyber insurance market in Russia is an important initiative that can significantly improve cybersecurity in the country. Just as OSAGO provides financial protection for motorists in the event of an accident, cyber threat insurance will protect companies in the event of cyber attacks and data leaks,” said Artem Sheikin “RIA News”.
Mr. Sheikin added that the Ministry of Digital Development and the Central Bank were recommended to consider the creation of new mechanisms for “co-financing the costs of critical information infrastructure facilities by introducing cyber risk insurance.”
According to him, it will be OSAGO for IT, which will help mitigate potential financial losses and reduce risks for citizens and companies. Artem Sheikin also believes that such insurance will improve network security and encourage companies to take additional measures to protect IT structures.
Artem Sheikin said that for such insurance, it is necessary to develop clear rules and standards for assessing risks and setting premiums for insurance policies, to ensure the exchange of information about cyber attacks and vulnerabilities between companies and insurers to more accurately determine risks and develop appropriate policies.
“In my opinion, all these aspects need to be “sewn up” into a federal law regulating new types of voluntary and compulsory insurance – cyber risk insurance,” he said.
Earlier, Kommersant wrote that the Federation Council advocated the creation of an intersectoral center for ensuring cybersecurity of critical information infrastructure (CII) of the telecom industry, banks, fuel and energy complex, etc. According to senators, companies need a “more specialized approach” to counter cyber attacks.
