Seattle and its metropolitan area have the largest share of advanced tech workers compared to cities with similar numbers of IT workers. This conclusion was reached by the analytical company Burning Glass Institute, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Analysts analyzed workforce data from both established and emerging U.S. tech hubs. As a result, regions were ranked by the proportion of those technology workers who have advanced skills in their fields of activity. This group of advanced skills includes skills related to cloud and serverless computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence architecture, and cybersecurity operations. Such workers are traditionally the most in demand on the market and the highest paid.
As a result, the ranking was topped by Seattle, where the headquarters of Amazon and Microsoft are located. In second and third places were two representatives of California – the urban agglomerations of San Jose and San Francisco. New York was ranked seventh and Los Angeles was ranked eighth. At the very bottom of the ranking were Tampa (Florida), Houston (Texas) and Sacramento (California), which took 25th, 26th and 27th places in the ranking, respectively.
