Scholz: EU will not interfere with the export of Russian grain and fertilizers

The European Union (EU) does not intend to interfere with the export of Russian grain and fertilizers, as this is important for food security in the world, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He noted that this agreement was reached between Russia and the UN, and the EU also undertook to comply with it.

Mr. Scholz discussed this topic at a press conference following the EU summit in Brussels. The chancellor believes it would be better to transport large volumes by sea. “And this was due from the very beginning to the clear commitment of the UN Secretary General that Russian grain and Russian fertilizers could also be exported,” he specified (quoted by TASS).

The grain deal was agreed between Russia and Ukraine in July with the participation of Turkey and the UN. In November, it was automatically extended for 120 days. Moscow has repeatedly complained that the part of the deal guaranteeing the export of Russian fertilizers is not being fulfilled. 12 December Russian Foreign Ministry declared about the need to adjust the grain deal. The next day, Uralchem informed about work on unblocking the export of Russian ammonia through Odessa.
