Germany’s gas storage facilities are nearly 95% full, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said. According to him, Germany should not expect Russian energy supplies in the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, Mr. Scholz hopes that his country will cope with the difficulties in the winter.
“I am happy to say that if we all continue to adapt to the changed situation (with electricity.— “b”) – citizens, companies and politicians – then we will safely survive this winter, ”he told the conference (quoted from Reuters).
In September, Olaf Scholz made public plan to support the German economy in a crisis period. One of its key points will be the freezing of electricity and gas prices in the country. In addition, the government will reduce the value-added tax on gas sales from 19% to 7% by spring 2024. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki over price freeze decision accused Germany in violation of the market principles of Europe.
