The government of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has approved a project to develop infrastructure on the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol. It is planned to build an industrial park, an industrial technopark, an ecopark and a transport and logistics center, Andriy Shpilenko, head of the Donbass Development Corporation state concern, said.

“Today, the most significant investment project for us is the integrated development of the territory of the former Azovstal plant. We have already begun to analyze this site, the site is 1 thousand 68 hectares. We proposed and received preliminary approval from the government (DNR.— ”b”) for the creation of four different types of infrastructure within this site,” Mr. Shpilenko told TASS.

According to the head of the concern, they intend to test new technologies in the industrial technopark, the ecotechnopark will process sludge and slag waste into raw materials for building materials, and the industrial and logistics center will help with the transportation of products, including by sea.

Andrey Shpilenko also said that the surviving enterprises will be launched on the territory of the industrial park, which can be launched in the near future with minimal costs. Among such enterprises are steel foundry, for the production of rolled metal, tram rails.

In early August, the Ministry of Construction developed a plan to restore Mariupol. The project is designed for three years, during which they are going to build 1.03 million square meters. m of apartment buildings, social facilities, embankments, parks and transport infrastructure. The plan also provides for the partial restoration of the Azovstal plant, production functions, the creation of an industrial park on the territory of Azovstal and the introduction of environmentally friendly steel melting technologies.
