Sberbank wants to open a branch in Bangladesh – Kommersant

Sberbank plans to open a branch in Bangladesh. To this end, the Russian credit institution turned to the Central Bank of the South Asian country (Bank of Bangladesh), according to a local publication. BDNews24 with reference to sources among officials of the regulator.
According to the publication, Sberbank has already held two rounds of negotiations with the Bank of Bangladesh. The meetings took place at the end of June and on July 6. According to sources, no specific decisions have been made at the talks so far. Sberbank clarifies with the regulator all the legal conditions and a set of documentation necessary for opening a branch, BDNews24 reports.
An unnamed senior official at the Bank of Bangladesh told the publication that the regulator told Sberbank that the opening of a branch should be coordinated with the government of the country. The regulator advised the credit institution to address this issue to the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry.
Now Sberbank has one foreign branch. It is located in India, in the city of New Delhi. It opened there in 2010. In 2023 the company intends open a branch in the Indian city of Mumbai.
