Fraudsters began to use the smartphone screen broadcast function to steal money, Sber reported in the Kibrariy project. This is how criminals find out card numbers, account amounts and SMS codes from the bank. This data can later be used to steal money and apply for loans.

As Sber reported, scammers call customers from a fake account using a name similar to a 900 number and the bank’s logo and ask whether they have updated the banking mobile application. “If the answer is negative, the “employee” reports that you need to wait for a call from a specialized specialist who will help update the application,” said Sberbank (quoted from “Izvestia”).

Another person is calling from another messenger account, which has the function of broadcasting the screen during a video call. It is argued that such a scheme is needed to “disorient a person and force him to act as directed.” The scammer explains that the call is made via video link to identify the client using biometrics, and asks to enable screen sharing mode. At the same time, he claims that a “robotic system for diagnosing the account” is connected.

Experts told Izvestia that the screen broadcast scheme has been in use for several years. For example, in the summer of 2022, Kaspersky Who Calls recorded a nationwide pattern of job offers with high salaries through online interviews. At the same time, the scammers asked to enable screen recording with the demonstration.
