Samsung shares jumped 5% amid possible cooperation with Nvidia – Kommersant

Samsung shares rose 5.6% after Nvidia’s CEO said his company intends to purchase high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips from the Korean manufacturer. This is the most significant jump in Samsung’s stock price since September last year.
Yesterday, as part of the annual conference on artificial intelligence Nvidia GTC, the CEO of the American company, Jensen Huang, said that Samsung chips are going through the “selection” stage for use in Nvidia graphics chips. At the same time, Mr. Huang noted that he has high hopes for Samsung HBM chips.
Now the leader in the market for HBM chips, critical components for creating AI systems, is another Korean manufacturer – SK Hynix. The day before, he announced the start of mass production of his own newest HBM chip, which Nvidia should begin receiving at the end of March. Mass production of a competitive chip from Samsung should begin in the first half of this year.
Shares of SK Hynix fell in price by 3.5% amid the announcement of Nvidia’s cooperation with Samsung.
