South Korean engineering company Samsung Heavy Industries has stopped producing units and equipment for 10 of 15 LNG ships. She concluded contracts for them with the Russian shipbuilding complex Zvezda.
According to Reuters, a Samsung representative said that the company is completing production of equipment for five ships. Production cessation for the remaining ten vessels has been announced, but the contract has not yet been terminated.
15 ice-class tankers are being built at Zvezda for loading liquefied natural gas from NOVATEK’s Arctic LNG-2. In December 2022, Kommersant wrote that the shipbuilding complex was not on time to produce the lead Arc7 tanker by March 2023 due to the complexity of purchasing equipment.
