Sales of electric vehicles in the EU grew by 18.4% in February – Kommersant

In February, 883.6 thousand new cars were sold in EU countries. This is 10.1% more than in the same month last year. At the same time, sales of all types of electrified vehicles increased by 18.4%. Over the year, the share of electric vehicles in sales of all new cars in the EU increased from 44.8% to 48.2%. Such data cites the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

As noted in ACEA, sales of all new cars, including gasoline, diesel and electric, increased in all major European markets, including in France – by 13%, in Italy – 12.8%, in Spain – 9.9%, in Germany – 5.4%. In the UK, which is not a member of the EU, sales rose 14%.

Petrol cars still remain the most popular type of personal transport, but their share of sales in the EU market decreased over the year from 36.9% to 35.5%. The share of diesel vehicles decreased from 15% to 12.9%. Among electrified cars, hybrid ones are in greatest demand; their share increased over the year from 25.5% to 28.9%.

The largest European manufacturers increased car sales over the year. Volkswagen Group sold almost 229 thousand cars in February, which is 9.8% more than in the same month a year earlier. Stellantis increased sales by 12%; the manufacturer sold 172.3 thousand cars last month. Europe’s third largest manufacturer, Renault Group, sold 91.7 thousand vehicles (an increase of 5.8%).
