According to London-based research firm Rho Motion, 13.6 million electric vehicles, including all-electric and hybrid vehicles, were sold worldwide in 2023. This is 31% more than in 2022. At the same time, in 2022, the sales increase compared to the previous year was 60%. The agency reports this Reuters citing Rho Motion spokesman Charles Lester.
“The pace of growth is slowing,” said Charles Lester, “but this is exactly what is expected in growing markets. Growth cannot be doubled every year.” At the same time, December sales, according to Rho Motion, broke a monthly record: 1.5 million electric vehicles were sold.
Of the total number of cars sold, 9.5 million were fully electric, 4.1 million were hybrid. Sales of electric vehicles grew especially rapidly in 2023 in the USA and Canada – by 50%, in Europe – by 27%, in China – by 15%.
