Technologically recoverable oil reserves in Russia will be enough for almost 40 years, gas reserves – for almost 60 years, said the head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use of Russia Evgeny Petrov. In his opinion, oil production will not decrease with the development of alternative energy sources.

“As of January 1 this year, we have technologically recoverable oil reserves for 39 years. This is what we can get with today’s technology. Profitably recoverable reserves – for 33 years. This is what you can sell right now at the price levels of the end of 2021,” said Evgeny Petrov in an interview. “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.

Evgeny Petrov noted that these data depend on market and technological parameters. “Something has happened in the world, the price of oil has risen, respectively, the security has grown. And vice versa. Technologies, their cost and availability play an equally important role,” he explained.

Mr. Petrov added that oil and gas production may grow against the backdrop of the development of alternative energy. However, according to him, the growth in production will not be as active as in the past 20 years.

Formerly OPEC predicted a decrease in oil production in Russia in 2023 by 0.4 million barrels per day. According to the forecast, next year it will average 10.5 million barrels per day.
