Russians transferred more than 1 trillion rubles to deposits abroad in six months

During the first half of the year, deposits of Russian citizens in foreign banks increased by 1.019 trillion rubles, Prime reports, citing data from the Central Bank (CB). In the first quarter, 539.7 billion rubles were transferred, most of this amount was transferred in February (331.6 billion rubles). In the second quarter, the Russians transferred another 480.1 billion rubles to deposits. The lowest amount on deposits abroad was recorded in January – 34.3 billion rubles.

VTB predictsthat foreign currency savings of Russian citizens will continue to decrease, and the share of foreign currency in their portfolio of classic savings by the end of 2022 will be about 10%. As of August, Russians had almost $74 billion in foreign currency deposits, the Central Bank reported. In the July commentary of the regulator, it was said that the value of deposits in Russia had reached a historic low, dropping to 11.5%.
