Russians spent 161 billion rubles on computer games in a year.  – Kommersant

In 2023, gamers from Russia spent 161 billion rubles on computer games and in-game goods. About it “Vedomosti” said the operating director of the online game development school XYZ School (part of Ultimate Education) Emma Yusova. The most popular games among Russians were Atomic Heart, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur`s Gate 3.

According to XYZ School, about 106 billion rubles. Russian gamers passed through official channels, and 55 billion rubles. (24%) – through intermediaries selling activation keys for various games and in-game goods, for example KupiKod.

Most of the money was spent on single-player games. The top most popular games included Atomic Heart, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur`s Gate 3.

The data was obtained as a result of a survey in which 1.4 thousand gamers from Russia took part. Gamers were defined as those who played video games more than five hours a week. In total, according to the company, there are 25–26 million Russians. Each such player spent an average of 6,440 rubles over the previous year.

As a representative of XYZ School points out, some gamers “pirate content rather than spend money on purchasing it.” The study also took into account the spending of those who play for less than five hours, but also buy games.

According to the developer and publisher My.Games, the volume of the Russian video game market has reached 177.4 billion rubles. (no data for 2022). PC games accounted for 48% of this amount, or RUB 85 billion.
