Russians' spending on gifts by February 23 exceeded last year's level

In 2024, Russians spent more money on gifts, surprises and entertainment for Defender of the Fatherland Day than in 2023, according to the results of a study by the analytical resource “Check Index” of the fiscal data operator “OFD Platform”, which is cited by RBC. The number of purchases from February 15 to 20 increased by 19% compared to last year.

Analysts used aggregated anonymized sales information from online and non-network trade and services. Analytical models work on the basis of 110 billion receipts.

According to analysts, during this period, Russians purchased gift certificates for an average of 2,380 rubles, 31% more expensive than in 2023. Demand for men’s perfumes, clothing and footwear, construction equipment, smartphones and headphones has also increased significantly.

In 2024, analysts note, Russians’ spending on leisure and entertainment categories, including out-of-town holidays, has increased. Also, the average bill for a trip to a bathhouse, sauna and spa center increased by 19% – RUB 3,140.

According to Superjob.ru analysts, this year Russians plan to spend an average of 3,600 rubles on gifts by February 23, and 3,900 rubles by March 8. 32% of men and 69% of women surveyed will give gifts on Defender of the Fatherland Day, and 66% of men and 61% of women on International Women’s Day.
