Russians prefer yuan – Kommersant

As shown survey FOM, the majority of Russians believe that now it is more profitable to keep savings in rubles (61%) than in foreign currency (15%). At the same time, citizens are increasingly inclined to choose yuan rather than the usual dollar and euro as the currency for savings. Respondents were asked to imagine a hypothetical situation: they were presented with a significant amount of money in rubles with the condition that they need to convert it into foreign currency and put it in a savings account for five years, and then freely dispose of it at their discretion. A third of those surveyed (32%) would convert the amount into Chinese currency.
Yuan became the most popular choice among respondents of all age categories, except for young people. Russians under 30 chose euros and dollars slightly more often than Chinese currency (34-36% vs. 32%).
