Transfers of funds through the fast payment system (FPS) to five countries have become available to Russian citizens, reported “Izvestia” Director of the National Payment System Department of the Bank of Russia Alla Bakina. Ms. Bakina did not specify which countries she was talking about. Having studied the applications of Russian banks, Izvestia found that among the countries that can accept transfers via SBP are Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus.
As the publication notes, transfers are available, for example, from Alfa Bank. VTB said that clients can also transfer money to four countries, but did not specify their names. Other credit institutions have announced plans to introduce a similar feature in the near future. Thus, Rosselkhozbank intends to launch a transfer service via SBP by the end of this year, Pochta Bank – in the first quarter of 2024.
The number of foreign financial institutions that can accept transfers via SBP increased from 14 in August to 37 by the end of September, Izvestia writes. It is currently possible to transfer funds from abroad to Russia through SBP from only one country.
The Central Bank launched a fast payment system in 2019. The system allows you to transfer money by phone number between accounts in different banks, as well as pay for goods, services, etc. In 2022, about 3 billion transactions were carried out through SBP for a total amount of 14.4 trillion rubles. First trial cross-border transfer via SBP took place at the beginning of July 2022.
