Russians’ New Year’s table has risen in price by 8% over the year – Kommersant

The cost of products for New Year celebrations increased by 8%, said Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko, citing industry associations and business associations. The driver of price growth was poultry meat, eggs and tangerines.
“The New Year’s table will be eight percent more expensive than last year. Due to the increase in the cost of poultry meat, eggs and tangerines, they also rose quite noticeably this year,” said Ms. Abramchenko “RIA News”.
Domestic sparkling wine has risen in price by no more than 5%. Wholesale prices for caviar have decreased. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, for example, chum salmon caviar in wholesale is 25% cheaper than in 2022; in retail, “there is already a decrease.”
Fish processor Baltic Bereg, as Kommersant learned, previously notified retailers of a 10% increase in prices for herring fillet products in December. As stated in the document, the increase in selling prices is caused by the shortage and rise in price of raw materials. This may lead to a rise in price of one of the traditional Russian dishes on the New Year’s table – herring under a fur coat.
