Russians in the second quarter set a record for the number of payments for goods with cards

In the second quarter of 2022, individuals used cards to pay for goods and services 13.4 billion times, which was a record. This follows from the calculations of RIA Novosti based on the statistics of the Central Bank (CB).
Compared to the previous quarter, the indicator increased by 1.2 billion units. The number of transactions not related to payment for goods also reached a maximum – 3.3 billion units. This is 304 million transactions more than in the first quarter of 2022.
At the beginning of the year, the Central Bank recorded a decrease in demand for cash: in the first three months, the Russians withdrew only 7 trillion rubles. This is 15% more than a year earlier, but 5-7% lower than in the third and fourth quarters of 2021. Analysts had expected withdrawals to decline in the second quarter as well.
