Russians are twice as likely to turn to out-of-court bankruptcy

The number of extrajudicial bankruptcies of citizens has almost doubled, according to data from the Federal Resource for the first quarter of 2023. Thus, during this period, 2,510 out-of-court procedures were initiated, which is 95.9% more than in January-March 2022. At the same time, the number of errors of citizens when applying to the MFC for out-of-court bankruptcy is decreasing – the share of returned applications decreased from 45% in the first quarter of 2022 to 31% in the same period of the current year.

In total, during the period of existence of out-of-court bankruptcy from September 2020 to March 2023, 16,075 procedures were initiated with a total debt of citizens in the amount of 5.55 billion rubles. By March 31, 10,942 out-of-court procedures were completed, as a result of which 3.82 billion rubles were written off. debts.

Russians are also showing great interest in the judicial procedure of bankruptcy. The number of bankrupt citizens in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 40.3% compared to the same period in 2022, amounting to 76 thousand people (last year there was an increase of 33.6%). Since October 2015, during the entire existence of the consumer bankruptcy procedure, 829 thousand citizens have already been declared bankrupt.

If the number of bankruptcies of citizens continues to grow, then the number of legal entities declared insolvent decreased by 46.2% (to 1268 units) in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. However, the number of monitoring procedures in relation to organizations remained almost the same – 1807 in January-March 2023 against 1824 in the same period in 2022. The head of the Federal Resource Alexei Yukhnin explains the decline in the number of corporate bankruptcies as a “deferred effect of a six-month moratorium last year”, which prohibited creditors from bankrupting their debtors: “Given the fact that the number of observations has returned to the level of the beginning of 2022, I think the number of bankruptcy proceedings will soon catch up to the values ​​​​of that period , 700–900 per month.”
