Microsoft agreed to pay almost $3 million for violating US sanctions

The US Treasury reported that the American corporation Microsoft agreed to pay $2.9 million for 1.3 thousand counts of violations of sanctions against Russia, Syria, and Cuba. This is stated in statement Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
As OFAC reported, between July 2012 and April 2019, Microsoft sold software licenses and provided its services to individuals from Russia, Cuba, Syria, included in the sanctions lists. The total amount of licenses sold to sanctioned persons, according to OFAC, amounted to $12 million.
In particular, the company allowed the use of its products in the Crimea, follows from the statement. The department stressed that Microsoft itself reported the violations and cooperated during the proceedings, providing “voluminous and detailed information.”
In March 2022, Microsoft officially announced the suspension of sales of new products in Russia and the provision of services in the country.
