According to Russian Railways, the total travel time from Moscow to St. Petersburg will be 2 hours 15 minutes. From Moscow you can get to Tver in 39 minutes, to Valdai in 1 hour 15 minutes, and to Veliky Novgorod in 1 hour 41 minutes. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, trains will travel at a speed of 200 km/h, and between them – up to 400 km/h. It is expected that at least 23 million people will use the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed line annually.

According to Russian Railways, the design of the highway is now more than 60% complete. Construction has begun on the most difficult section at the exit from Moscow. “The high-speed line will practically erase the boundaries between the country’s two largest agglomerations. It will open up a new space for tourism and stimulate the expansion of public and business connections,” noted Russian Railways.

President Vladimir Putin gave a start construction of the HSR on March 14. On behalf of the head of state, the government in 2025 will highlight from the National Welfare Fund (NWF) at least 300 billion rubles. for the construction of the highway. According to the Ministry of Transport, the financial model of the high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg includes 580 billion rubles. from the National Welfare Fund, as well as Gazfond bonds worth 290 billion rubles. The expected launch year for the highway is 2028.
