Amid strong demand, the Russian Railways (RZD) launched trains to the south with tickets at lower prices. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the Deputy General Director of the company Dmitry Pegov. According to him, to increase the fleet in the southern direction, Russian Railways used old cars.
“Preparing for the summer, we put in order and put on the line all the existing passenger cars that the holding has in principle. Even the German “Ammendorf” – the so-called “chocolate”. These are old cars with compartments, but they meet all the requirements and standards, including safety,” said Dmitry Pegov. He stated that tickets for these trains are cheaper.
Dmitry Pegov also said that Russian Railways does not plan to equip trains with special smoking areas or smoking cars. Smoking on trains was banned 10 years ago.
